Aggies win season opener, 49-19

The Aggie football team opened the 2012 season with a convincing 49-19 win over Sacramento State at Aggie Memorial Stadium in front of an announced home crowd of 12,118.
The duo of Aggie Quarterback Andrew Manley and Wide Receiver Austin Franklin lit up the scoreboard. Manley and Franklin connected on two touchdowns and Franklin finished with a career-high of 236 receiving yards.

Sophomore Quarterback Andrew Manley finished with a career-high 367 passing yards and three touchdowns on a 14-of-22 effort.
The Aggie rushing game was a bit off-kilter on the night and was unable to sustain any kind of a ground attack. The Aggie backfield consisted of four running backs and combined for a total of only 127-yards (2.5 avg. on 40 attempts, including Manley's 5 rushes for 9-yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, the night belonged to host of Aggie defenders, namely the linebacker corp. Donte Savage, Trashaun Nixon, and Bryan Bonilla had excellent games with Nixon capturing his first double-digit tackle total with 15 and Bonilla finishing with 11.
The score at halftime was 28-10, Aggies. The lead was a comfortable one, but the Aggies came out a little tight in the second half and the CSUS Hornets crept back into the game, down only 11, 28-19 with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter.
The Aggies answered quickly at the start of the fourth quarter on a 12-yard run by running back Germi Morrison to put the Aggies up, 35-19.
The Aggies were able to control the remainder of the game scoring two more times on rushing plays by Tiger Powell and Robert Clay, sealing the Aggie win, 49-19.
The Aggies (1-0) next face the Ohio Bobcats (0-0) on Saturday, September 8th, in Athens, OH.
